perhaps a better way would be to dip and do a very gentle shake of the filter in a bucket filled with pond water…

The chlorine content in most tap water is not sufficient to destroy the bacteria from a simple spray clean. There is organic matter left in the filter with enough good bacteria to prime the filter.
Also, I do occasionally add a good bacteria mixture to the Pond, Filter and Bio-Pond.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Make sure you really think out what you want from the pond and consider the climate you are in. In temperate to warm climates you can form a shallow pond. In colder climates you must be 18 inches and deeper. Also, deep ponds allow less light and make it harder to see fish. Shallow ponds allow more light and promote too much algae growth. My filter works by pumping water to a UV light to kill algae and bad Bacteria. Then it enters a Bio pond. To be cont.

what is the source of the water that you are using to spray clean. read that we shouldn’t use tap water to clean media as chlorine would kill a lot of the BB living in the media

That is a Bullfrog Tadpole. It takes a full year for them to develope into a frog so they spend the winter in the leaves at the bottom of the pond and sometimes in my Bio-filter. They are changing into frogs this year. I’ll be posting a short vid of one soon.

Cool, if you can’t post a vid, message back if you can to let us know what you decided on and if it works out.
A lot of my frogs take off for somewhere, the neighbor sees them sometimes. A few stick around.
Last year was the first year thet reproduced in the pond. I have several hundred tadpoles.

yeah that would, but atm the pond isnt quiet finished, i just about finished digging it today, before that i had a premade plastic pond thingy which was shit and im going to redo my whole pond area. but im thinking of maybe puttting a fence of some sort around my pond area so they wont try and leave but idk ill try and think things over, and id like to record it but i got an old caset recorder which isnt digital so thats gonna be a bit hard :/

Taht’s a tough one. The toads are going to go for the bigger pond in order to increase their odds of reproduction. You need to gather tadpoles and put them in the small pond. Some will return to their place of origin to reproduce if they don’t get killed in the pool. If you can make a vid of your pool and pond that would be great.

Thanks, I really enjoy the pond. It attracks a lot of little creatures. There’s something about having nature close by.

I filmed this video less than a week ago, ( 21 March 2009). The tadpoles are bull frogs which take a full year to develope into a frog. Kamo pup is afraid of anything new for about ten minutes and then he likes to stick his mouth on it. I could change his name to mouth because he puts it on everything.

Wow those were really big tadpoles, nice job on the video. When did you film this and what type of frogs has tadpoles that large?
Looked like Kamo was scared of something in the backround unless it was the sound of the bucket that made her jump backwards twice. Anyways cute pup.
